BORN HULL 1893. ONLY SON OF JOHN HENRY AND FLORENCE CRIDLAND, OF 20, CARRINGTON STREET, AIRLIE STREET, BOULEVARD, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). HE HAD TWO SISTERS, ELLA & GLADYS MAY CRIDLAND. A FORMER NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY PORTER AND RAILWAY OPERATOR. HE ENLISTED HULL, ON 10/12/1915, AGED 22 YEARS AND 300 DAYS. HIS ARMY MEDICAL RECORDS, DESCRIBE HIM AS 5 FOOT, 1 INCH TALL. JOINED AS PTE, 25900, YORKSHIRE REGIMENT ON 30/01/1916. HIS ARMY ADDRESS WAS 43, GORDON STREET, HULL. SENT TO FRANCE, 28/06/1916. WOUNDED ON 6/10/1917 WHILST CLEANING HIS RIFLE IN THE FRONT LINE TRENCH, HIS RIFLE SUDDENLY WENT OFF AND A BULLET INJURED HIS LEFT HAND. HE WAS TRIED BY COURT MARSHALL. RIFLE FOUND FAULTY, BUT HE WAS FOUND GUILTY OF NEGLIGENCE AND A SELF INFLICTED WOUND. GIVEN 60 DAYS FIELD PUNISHMENT NO:1, ON 20/11/1917. HE RETURNED TO DUTIES AND WAS KILLED IN ACTION ON 28/03/1918, AGED 25. HIS BODY WAS NEVER FOUND AND HE IS COMMEMORATED AT THE ARRAS MEMORIAL.
HIS WAR PENSION WAS AWARDED TO HIS MOTHER, FLORENCE, AT 20, CARRINGTON STREET, AIRLIE STREET, BOULEVARD, HULL.
