SON OF THOMAS CROSSLAND (1867-1951) (A TWIN) & MARGARET ANN GREGORY (1870-1958), AT 5, ANNS PLACE, FRANCIS STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS); THE FAMILY ALSO LIVED AT 5, ST JAMES PLACE, MASON STREET, IN 1914 & 5, ST PAUL STREET, HULL, IN 1919 AND 22, LOCKWOOD TERRACE, LOCKWOOD STREET, HULL (10/03/1922). HE HAD THREE BROTHERS AND THREE SISTERS.

EMPLOYED AS A BOATMAN AND LIVED AT GREEN LANE, WINCOLMLEE, HULL. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 3 INCHES TALL, 35-37 INCH CHEST, 116 LBS WEIGHT, SCAR ACROSS NOSE.

HE ENLISTED IN BEVERLEY, ON 16/12/1914. POSTED TO FRANCE ON 28/04/1915. KILLED IN ACTION AT YPRES, ONE WEEK LATER, ON 05/05/1915, AGED 20. HE HAD SERVEDIN THE ARMY, FOR 142 DAYS.

CHARLES’ DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 01/06/1915, AND THE HULL TIMES, ON 25/09/1915, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON THE MENIN GATE, YPRES. HE LEFT BROTHERS BENJAMIN, HORACE & TOM, AND SISTERS AMY MAY, MARGARET & MARY CROSSLAND, WHO ALL LIVED TOGETHER WITH PARENTS. ARMY RECORDS STATE CHARLES WAS 5 FT 3IN TALL, WEIGHT 116LB, CHEST SIZE 33 INS & SCAR ACROSS NOSE. HIS DEATH AND PHOTOGRAPH APPEAR IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL 1ST JUNE 1915. *
