BORN STONEHOUSE, DEVON, 1883. SON OF WILLIAM INKERMAN CURRY & MARY ROCKEY, OF 16, FRANCIS STREET, HULL. ELDEST OF FOUR CHILDREN. HE MARRIED, ELSIE STAMP, IN HULL ON 14/01/1914. THEY LIVED AT 7, SHAFTESBURY AVENUE, GROVEHILL ROAD, BEVERLEY AND 75, CRANBROOK AVENUE, COTTINGHAM ROAD, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). EMPLOYED AS A CORPORATION CLERK.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED AS GUNNER, 286246, ROYAL GARRISON ARTILLERY. DIED ON 09/04/1918, AGED 35. BURIED AT ROYAL IRISH RIFLES GRAVEYARD, LAVENTIE, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “EVER REMEMBERED”
Frederick was born in 1883 in Stonehouse, Devon, as the son of William Inkerman Curry and Mary Curry. He married Elsie Stamp on 12 January 1914.
He worked for East Riding County Council for over 20 years, latterly in the Education Department, before joining the army in Jun 1917.
Frederick served as a bombardier in the Royal Garrison Artillery with the 32nd Siege Battery in France
He was killed in action on 9 April 1918 in northern France in the vicinity of Bethune/Armentieres and buried locally. Frederick’s remains were exhumed in 1920 and he was reburied at the nearby Royal Irish Rifles Cemetery at Lavantie, Pas-De-Calais, France.
He was awarded the War and Victory Medals.
