HIS WIFE, LILY HOLMES (1882-) LIVED AT 10 PLEASANT PLACE, NEPTUNE STREET (1911 CENSUS); 10 PRINCES TERRACE, WEST DOCK STREET, HULL AND LATER 12 FIRST AVENUE, CAMPBELL STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). THYHAD FIVE CHILDREN, GEORGE FREDERICK, THOMAS WILLIAM, ARTHUR, WILLIAM CLAYTON AND IVY CATHERINE DALE.
HE ENLISTED AT HULL, ON 04/03/1916, AGED 35 AND 10 MONTHS. FORMERLY, PRIVATE, 212487 EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMET. HIS ARMY MEDICAL RECORDS DESCRIBED HIM AS 5 FOOT 3.5 INCHES TALL, 123 LBS WEIGHT AND 33 INCH CHEST. POSTED TO FRANCE ON 02/07/1916. TRANSFERRED TO THE 7TH EYR BATTALION. HE DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 23/07/1916. WHILE ATTACHED TO THE 2ND EYR. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 23/04/1917. *
HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL.
HE IS RECORDED AS DIED OF WOUNDS, ON THE BEAN STREET ROLL OF HONOUR, (Hull Daily Mail 11 October 1916).
HIS ARMY RECORDS STATE THAT HE LEFT FOUR LIVING BROTHERS AND ONE SISTER, BUT THEIR WHEREABOUTS WERE UNKNOWN.
