BORN HULL 1886. SON OF MARK DARBY & CHARLOTTE (MASON), OF 9 MARLBOROUGH TERRACE, NORFOLK STREET, HULL,. BROTHER MARK & FIVE SISTERS. HIS WIFE LIVED 12 DEIGHTON TERRACE, PORTER STREET, HULL. WORKED AT HARGREAVES, GIPSYVILLE. A FORMER REGULAR ARMY SOLDIER. CALLED UP ON 5TH AUGUST 1914. SERVED AS A SIGNALLER IN THE 1ST NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION ON 22ND OCTOBER 1914, AGED 28. HE HAD ONLY BEEN MARRIED 12 MONTHS. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON LE TOURET MEMORIAL, PAS DE CALAIS, FRANCE. HIS DEATH AND PHOTOGRAPH IS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL AND HULL TIMES, ON 12TH DECEMBER 1914. *
HIS NAME WAS RECORDED ON THE WAR MEMORIAL AT ST THOMAS CHURCH, CAMPBELL STREET, WHICH WAS DESTROYED IN AN AIR RAID DURING WW2.
