BORN HULL 1889. SON OF THOMAS EDWARD D’ARCY (1863-1943) & MARY ANN HOOTON (1867-1893), OF 4, POPLAR AVENUE, WESTBOURNE STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS ADDRESS) & 1, TREVOR STREET, GREEN LANE, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). HIS FOSTER MOTHER WAS MARGARET PIKE (WAR PENSION RECORDS). SON OF A FISH LABOURER AND OIL PRESSMAN. HE HAD ONE OLDER BROTHER, THOMAS. THE FAMILY ALSO LIVED A 1, TREVOR STREET, GREEN LANE, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS).

HE WAS A PROFESSIONAL SOLDIER AND HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR NINE YEARS. SERVED AS LANCE CORPORAL, 3096, 8TH NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS. WOUNDED AT THE SOMME. HE DIED OF WOUNDS THE FOLLOWING DAY, ON 28/09/1916, AGED 28, AT THE 3RD CASUALTY CLEARING STATION.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 17/10/1916 WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. * HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER, THOMAS D’ARCY AT 1, TREVOR STREET, GREEN LANE, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS)
HE IS BURIED AT THE SOMME. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “HE DIED THAT WE MIGHT LIVE SOME DAY, SOME TIME WE SHALL UNDERSTAND”

HIS BROTHER, THOMAS, ANOTHER PROFESSIONAL SOLDIIER, SERVED AS ACTING SERGEANT, 1240, 1ST NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS.
