BORN HULL 15/12/1891. SON OF JOHN DAVIE (1858-1939) & LOUISA ALLEN (1856-1931), AT 62, SUNNY BANK, SPRING BANK WEST, HULL. HIS FATHER WAS A LAW CLERK AND WORKED FOR THE TOWN CLERKS DEPARTMENT, HULL, GUILDHALL. HE HAD TWO BROTHERS AND THREE SISTERS. EDUCATED AT HULL GRAMMAR SCHOOL. HE HAD BEEN A BRILLIANT SCHOLAR. FRANK DAVIE WORKED FOR THE CITY’S, ACCOUNTANCY STAFF.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL DURING AUGUST 1914. JOINED THE 10TH EYR, ‘HULL COMMERCIALS’ PALS AND TRANSFERRED TO 11TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. SERVED IN EGYPT FROM NOVEMBER 1915.
HE ARRIVED IN FRANCE ON 3RD MARCH 1916. WAS WOUNDED IN ACTION ON 4TH JUNE 1916. PROMOTED TO CORPORAL. ON 9TH AUGUST 1916, HE WAS AWARDED THE MILITARY MEDAL, “FOR ATTENDING TO THE WOUNDED, FOR TWO HOURS, UNDER HEAVY FIRE, WHILE WOUNDED HIMSELF”. ON RECOVERY HE TRANSFERRED TO THE OFFICER CADET TRAINING ACADEMY. HE RECEIVED HIS COMMISSION ON 25TH JANUARY 1917. HE CAME TOP OF A CLASS OF 200 OTHER CANDIDATES. HE WAS WOUNDED ON THE 3RD MAY 1917 AT OPPY WOOD, AND RETURNED TO ENGLAND. HE DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 2ND JUNE 1917, AGED 27, AT THE ENDSLEIGH PALACE HOSPITAL FOR OFFICERS, IN DEVON. HE LEFT £211 IN HIS WILL TO HIS FATHER, JOHN AT THIS PROBATE ADDRESS.

HE WAS INTERNED AT HULL WESTERN CEMETERY WITH FULL MILITARY HONOURS.

HE IS LISTED ON THE HULL GRAMMAR SCHOOL WW1 MEMORIAL AND AT ST MATTHEWS CHURCH, WW1 MEMORIAL BOULEVARD. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE NORTH DEVON JOURNAL ON 21ST JUNE 1917. HIS SERVICE DETAILS ARE RECORDED IN THE DE RUVIGNY ROLL OF HONOUR, VOLUME 3.
