ALSO WITH THE MILITIA IN SOUTH AFRICA, (MEDAL). HE WAS AFTERWARDS EMPLOYED AT ORGREAVE COAL COLLIERY, IN ROTHERHAM. HE MARRIED, LILY BROWN. AT ST MARYS CHURCH, SCULCOATES ON 07/10/1911. THEY LIVED AT 83 STEPNEY LANE, WITH THEIR TWO CHILDREN, GEORGE AND MARY. HE WAS MOBILIZED ON 05/08/1914, AS PRIVATE, 8150, 2ND KING’S OWN YORKSHIRE LIGHT INFANTRY. SENT TO FRANCE, ON 18/08/1914. KILLED IN ACTION, AT LA BASSEE, ON 27/10/1914, AGED 29. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON LE TOURET MEMORIAL, FRANCE.
HIS DEATH WAS RECORDED IN THE DE RUVIGNY ROLL OF HONOUR, VOLUME 1, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
