Davies, John Alfred

Born Worcester, Worcestershire, 1879. Son of John Alfred and Sarah Davis, of Claines, Worcestershire,

Married at Beverley, on 29 May 1907. Husband of Edith Jane Davies, of 6, Clinton Avenue, Manvers Street, Hull (War Pension address).

Enlisted at Birmingham, on 8 Feb 1898. Served with the 1st & 3rd East Yorkshire Regiment. Posted to India for six years. Self educated and promoted through the ranks. Used as a Drill Instructor when war began. First posted to France, on 22 Dec 1915. Sent to France three times. Transferred to the Labour Corps, Discharged on 13 March 1919. Awarded the Silver War Badge (No: B293097). He had served in the army for 21 years and 34 days.

After the war, he worked as a Clerk for the East Riding Territorial Association. Died of Bronchitis and Heart Failure, on 21 Sept 1921, aged 42.
