HE ENLISTED IN THE HULL PALS, ON 21/11/1914, AGED 21 YEARS AND 160 DAYS. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 3.5 INCHES TALL, 36 INCH CHEST. TRAINED IN BEVERLEY, AND RIPON. LEFT DEVON PORT ON 16/12/1915. SERVED WITH THE 13TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT IN EGYPT AND FRANCE. ARRIVED IN FRANCE ON 08/03/1916. WOUNDED IN THE BUTTOCK, ON 24/03/1916. RETURNED TO DUTY, ON 05/04/1916. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 09/08/1916, AGED 22. HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY, FOR 1 YEAR, AND 263 DAYS. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER ALFRED, WHO LIVED AT 72 WHARNCLIFFE STREET, HULL.
HE IS BURIED AT LE TOURET MILITARY CEMETERY, RICHEBOURG-L’AVOUE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “TO MEMORY DEAR”.
