BORN HULL 1894. SON OF JOHN WILLIAM & LOUISA DAWSON. ADOPTED SON OF MR WILLIAM JAMES COLLINSON, AT 89, GOODWIN STREET, HULL, (CWGC RECORDS) AND 35, ALLIANCE AVENUE, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). HE WAS EMPLOYED IN THE FITTER’S SHOP AT EARLES SHIPYARD.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED WITH THE 3RD EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT AND VOLUNTEERED FOR ACTION. HE WAS TRANSFERRED TO THE 2ND EYR, WHICH WAS DECIMATED AT MONS. HE WAS SERIOUSLY WOUNDED IN THE LEG, ON 23RD APRIL 1915 AND DIED IN THE BASE HOSPITAL ON THE 26TH APRIL 1915, AGED 21. HIS DEATH AND PHOTOGRAPH WERE REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 21ST MAY 1915, AND THE HULL TIMES, ON 22ND MAY 1915. *
HE IS BURIED AT POPERINGHE OLD MILITARY CEMETERY, BELGIUM.
