BORN HOXTON, LONDON, 17/06/1889. SON OF SAMUEL AND ANNIE DAY. HIS FATHER WAS A LOCAL POLICE INSPECTOR, LIVING AT 8 ADDREBURY CRESCENT, ADDERBURY GROVE, HULL. HE SERVED IN THE ROYAL NAVY, AS SECOND OFFICER, ON HMS “ABOUKIR”. HE WAS LOST AT SEA ON 22/09/1914, AGED 25. HE WAS ONE OF HULL’S FIRST CASUALTIES. HIS NAME IS ON THE TRINITY HOUSE SCHOOL MEMORIAL. FREDERICK ARTHUR DAY, MERCHANT SEAMAN AT SAME ADDRESS.
HIS BROTHER WILLIAM JOHN DAY, WAS A SECOND OFFICER IN THE MERCHANT NAVY AND ALSO DIED AT SEA ON THE STEAM SHIP ‘IBIS’ – 13/05/1918, AGED 21.

Torpedoed on 22nd September 1914 by U-9. The U-9 was responsible for the killing of 1,459 man in one single day, sending Aboukir, Cressy and Hogue, or a total of 36.000 tons to the bottom.
