EMPLOYED AS A NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY CRANE DRIVER. HE ENLISTED AT WENLOCK BARRACKS, HULL, ON 01/09/1914, GIVING AN OLDER AGE OF 19 YEARS AND 8 MONTHS. DESCRIBED AS A SINGLE MAN, 5 FOOT, 7.5 INCH CHEST, 36 INCH CHEST, 143 LBS WEIGHT, DARK BROWN HAIR AND EYES. TRAINED WITH THE 3RD EAST YORKSHIRE BATTALION. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 24/01/1915. TRANSFERRED TO THE 2ND EYR BATTALION. KILLED AT YPRES, ON 23/04/1915, AGED 18. HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR 235 DAYS.
RECORDED AS MISSING IN ACTION. HIS DEATH AND PHOTOGRAPH WERE REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 21ST MAY 1915, AND THE HULL TIMES, ON 22ND MARCH 1915. * HIS DEATH WAS AGAIN REPORTED WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 15TH MARCH 1916. *
