BORN HULL 1890. BAPTISED IN ST PAULS CHURCH, HULL ON 07/01/1891. SON OF JAMES DICK (1853-1934) & MARY ANN BATEMAN (1853-1931), OF 9 ADAS AVENUE, WATERLOO STREET. A MARINE ENGINNER. HE MARRIED EVERLYN BLANCHE DIXON, AT HULL’S HOLY TRINITY CHURCH, ON 28/02/1917. THEY LIVED AT 22, BLUNDELL STREET, HULL (CWGC NAVAL ADDRESS). LOST BY ENEMY ACTION. THERE WERE NO SURVIVORS. HE IS COMMEMORATED IN THE HULL MERCHANT NAVY RECORDS.

S.S. Polandia was built at Hamburg in 1898 by Blohm & Voss for the Woermann Linie. Her original name was the Paul Woermann and she operated on the East African routes for the company. In the first year of the war was she captured at Douala, Cameroon by H.M.S. Cumberland. Her name was changed to Polandia. On the 10th March 1917 she was en route from Birkenhead to Cherbourg, France, with government material when she disappeared without trace. Thirty-one crewmen were lost.
