Dickinson, George William

Born Thirsk, on 12 Oct 1879. Son of Alfred and Eliza Dickinson, of South End, Sowerby, Thirsk;

Married at Thirsk on 10 Oct 1911. Husband of Sarah Elizabeth Jennings Taylor (formerly Dickinson), of 3, Oxford Terrace, South Parade, Anlaby Rd., Hull (CWGC address) and 52, South Parade, Anlaby Road, Hull (War pension address). He had three children, Ronald Clive, Joyce Veronica and Ruby. he was employed as a Royal Mail Posrtal Worker on 5 Mar 1911.

He resided in Thirsk and enlisted in London. Served with the London Regiment (Post Office Rifles), 8th Bn. Died of wounds, on 03 May 1916, aged 37, at the 69th Field Ambulance. Buried at Hersin Communal Cemetery Extension, France. His grave reads, TO MEMORY DEAR ONE OF THE BEST

His army effects were left to his widow, Sarah E.
