BORN HULL 1896. ELDEST SON OF ROBERT HENRY & LOUISE DIXON, OF 46 THORESBY STREET (1911 CENSUS ADDRESS) & LATER 18 NORMAN TERRACE, ROUNDHAY, LEEDS (CWGC ADDRESS). EMPLOYED AS A CLERK AT MESSRS, BLUNDELL, SPENCE & CO. HIS FATHER WORKED IN THE ACCOUNTS DEPARTMENT AT THE GUILDHALL.
HE ENLISTED IN THE 1ST HULL PALS. 10TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT (HULL COMMERCIALS). SERVED IN EGYPT, FRANCE AND BELGIUM. DIED ON 28/02/1917, AGED 21. DESCRIBED AS THE “MOST CHEERFUL MAN IN THE COMPANY AND HIS FACE WOULD ALWAYS HAVE A SMILE WHEN THINGS WERE BAD. HIS PRESENCE WAS A TONIC.”
HE HAD BEEN DUE HOME ON LEAVE THREE WEEKS BEFORE, BUT ON ARRIBAL AT THE DEPARTURE STATION WAS ORDERED BACK TO HIS UNIT. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 16/03/1917. *
HE IS BURIED AT COUIN NEW BRITISH CEMETERY. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “ELDEST SON OF LOUIE & HARRY DIXON OF HULL”
HE LEFT A YOUNGER BROTHER, HAROLD VICTOR DIXON, WHO SURVIVED THE WAR.
