BORN HULL 1887. SON OF GEORGE DIXON (1845-1924) AND MARGARET ANN SIMPSON (1846-1918). ONE OF NINE CHILDREN. HE MARRIED ELIZABETH ANNIE BEADLE, IN 1909, AGED 21

HIS WIFE AND SIX CHILDREN LIVED AT 13 TRENT AVENUE, SCARBOROUGH STREET, HULL. (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). HE WORKED AS A COAL HEAVER ON HULL DOCKS. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 6 INCHES TALL, 38-40 INCH CHEST, 138 LBS WEIGHT.

HE ENLISTED HULL, ON 30/06/1917. POSTED TO ITALY, ON 10/08/1917. SERVED AS A SAPPER, IN THE ROYAL ENGINEERS. DIED OF PNEUMONIA, IN ITALY, ON 27/09/1918, AGED 31.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 18/10/1918, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR 1 YEAR AND 105 DAYS.

HE IS BURIED AT TARANTO TOWN CEMETERY EXTENSION, ITALY. HIS GRAVE READS, “DUTY NOBLY DONE”

HE IS ALSO COMMEMORATED ON THE MARKET WEIGHTON WW1 MEMORIAL.
