BORN HULL 09/08/1888. SON OF ELIZABETH ANN DOUGHTY, OF 14 WHITECROSS STREET, BARTON UPON HUMBER. A FORMER EMPLOYEE OF HOPPER ELSWICK CYCLE WORKS.
HE EMIGRATED TO CANADA IN 1911. RESIDED IN EDMONTON, CANADA AND WORKED AS A LUMBER YARD, TEAMSTER.
HE ENLISTED AT EDMONTON, ON 18TH JANUARY 1915, AGED 26 YEARS AND 9 MONTHS. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 6 INCHES TALL, 36 INCH CHEST, BLUE EYES, DARK BROWN HAIR, WESLEYAN RELIGION.
HE ENLISTED IN JANUARY 1915. SERVED AS CORPORAL IN THE 5TH CANADIAN EXPEDITIONARY FORCE. HE WAS BADLY WOUNDED IN JULY 1916 AND INVALIDED TO EDMONTON AND ST LEONARD CONVALESCENT HOME. HE RETURNED TO DUTY IN FEBRUARY 1917 AND WAS KILLED AT LENS (HILL 70) ON 15/08/1917, AGED 29.
HIS DEATH AND PHOTOGRAPH WERE PUBLISHED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 08/09/1917.
HE IS BURIED AT LONDON CEMETERY AND EXTENSION, LONGUEVAL.
