BORN HULL 1890. SON OF WALTER DREWERY (1865-1940) & ADA ELIZABETH DREWERY (1870-1904), HIS STEP MOTHER WAS BEATRICE HANNAH DREWERY, OF 29 WALTON STREET, HULL. HE HAD FOUR BROTHERS AND TWO SISTERS.
A TIMBER MERCHANTS CLERK, EMPLOYED BY MESSRS RICHARDSON & CO. AND HAD A WIDE CIRCLE OF FRIENDS. HE WAS IN THE TERRITORIAL ARMY FOR 11 YEARS.
HE ENLISTED IN THE 5TH EAST YORKSHIRE CYCLISTS, IN 1914. HE WAS SOON PROMOTED TO COMPANY QUARTERMASTER SERGEANT, & COMMISSIONED IN MARCH 1917. HE WAS WOUNDED IN NOVEMBER 1917. KILLED IN ACTION, DURING THE GERMAN SPRING OFFENSIVE, ON 21/03/1918, AGED 28. COMMEMORATED ON THE POZIERES MEMORIAL, SOMME, FRANCE.
HE HAD MARRIED AT HULL IN 1913 AND LEFT A WIDOW & YOUNG SON AT 274 , PARK AVENUE, HULL. HE ALSO RESIDED AT 31 PAISLEY STREET, ANLABY ROAD – (ARMY RECORDS).
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH, ON 4TH APRIL 1918. *
HE LOST A BROTHER IN THE WAR – LANCE CORPORAL, WALTER GORDON DREWERY, 36940, 2/4TH KINGS OWN YORKSHIRE LIGHT INFANTRY KILLED ON 20/07/1918, AGED 19, AND ANOTHER, CORPORAL, ARTHUR STANLEY DREWERY, 2/4TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT DIED OF FLU ON 01/03/1919, AGED 29.
