BORN HULL 1898. SON OF MATTHEW DRIVER (1858-1931) & THE LATE ADA LOUISE BODILLY (1860-1906) OF 3, DEVON GROVE, SCULCOATES LANE, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). ONE OF SIX CHILDREN. BROTHER TO FRANK, MINNIE, MATTHEW HENRY, WILLIAM AND ROBERT DRIVER.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED WITH THE 6TH EYR. KILLED AT YPRES ON 09/07/1917, AGED 19.
HE IS BURIED AT BRANDHOEK MILITARY CEMETERY. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 11/08/1917. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFTTO HIS FATHER, MATTHEW.
HIS BROTHER, MATTHEW DRIVER, EYR, WAS KILLED AT SERRE, ON 13/11/1916, AGED 29. HIS BROTHER, PTE, ROBERT DRIVER, EYR DIED A PRISONER OF WAR, ON 19/04/1917, AGED 28. ANOTHER BROTHER PTE, WILLIAM DRIVER, 1169, EYR WAS WOUNDED ON 25/09/1917 AND LIVED AT SAME ADDRESS & 63 NICHOLSON STREET, HULL.
THE THREE DRIVER BROTHERS WHO DIED IN THE WAR HAD THEIR NAMES ARE CARVED TOGETHER ON THE STONE PILLARS INSIDE ST MARY’S CHURCH, SCULCOATES LANE, HULL. ALL THE SONS WORKED FOR HOLMES TANNERY, SCULCOATES LANE BEFORE ENLISTING.
