BORN GRIMSBY 1899. ONLY SON OF ERNEST DUNNING AND GENNETTE GREEN (1869-1936) OF 68 WYNDHAM STREET, HULL AND 33 PELHAM STREET, NEW CLEE, GRIMSBY (HDM 23/12/18). WORKED AS A GROCER’S ASSISTANT.
HE ENLISTED GRIMSBY, ON 30/11/1916. CALLED UP ON 12/02/1917. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 2.5 INCHES TALL. CHEST SIZE 32- 34.5 INCHES, 109 LBS WEIGHT, “POOR” PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT. HE WAS POSTED TO FRANCE ON 23/01/1918, AND TRANSFERRED TO THE 6TH LEICESTERSHIRE REGIMENT ON 26/01/1918. CAPTURED DURING THE GERMAN SPRING OFFENSIVE, ON 22/03/1918. HE DIED OF PNEUMONIA AS A PRISONER OF WAR, AT MOLSHEIM HOSPITAL, GERMANY, ON 05/07/1918, AGED 19.
HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER, ERNEST. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 23/12/1918.
