BORN SUTTON, HULL, 1898. ONLY SON OF ERNEST HAWORTH EARLE (1863-1951) & MARY MARSHALL (1869-1939), OF, 168 VICTORIA AVENUE, HULL (PROBATE ADDRESS). SON A CHEMIST SHOP OWNER. HE HAD ONE SISTER, PHYLLIS (1893-1936)

ENLISTED AS A PRIVATE, 1167, 5TH EYR. COMMISSIONED AS LIEUTENANT IN THE 1/4TH EAST YORKSHIRES. KILLED IN ACTION ON ON 04/09/1918, AGED 20.

HE LEFT £217 IN HIS WILL TO HIS FATHER, ERNEST HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON THE ST MARYS CHURCH, LOWGATE RO;; OF HONOUR, & ON A  PLAQUE AND STAINED GLASS WINDOW, IN THE HULL MINSTER CHAPEL. HE IS BURIED AT LE GRAND BEAUMART BRITISH CEMETERY, STEENWERCK, NORD, FRANCE.

Hull Pals Memorial Post. SECOND LIEUTENANT, CEDRIC EARLE. Born in January 1898 in Sutton, Hull Cedric was the youngest of two children and only son of Ernest and Mary Earle of 168 Victoria Avenue, Hull. He was killed in action on 4th September 1918 as The Pals went in chase of the retreating Germans and attempted to take Hill 63. The preliminary bombardment was met in kind by the enemy and shells rained down on the battalion’s assembly trenches which cost many lives. Not only that, but they then advanced over flat ground, in daylight, with no cover and fell prey to the machine guns. The first week of September 1918 was a costly one for the 10th. Cedric is buried at Le Grand Beaumart British Cemetery; he was 20 years old.
