BORN HULL 1900. SON OF JOSEPH EARNSHAW AND MARY PARTIS. SON OF A LABOURER. ONE OF TEN CHILDREN, HE HAD SIX BROTHERS AND THREE SISTERS, LIVING AT 18 ANNS PLACE, CHAPMAN STREET AND 7 JAMES SQUARE, HODGSON STREET, HULL. HE WORKED AS A LABOURER, WHEN WAR BEGAN. LIVING WITH HIS SISTER ELSIE, BROTHER, ROBERT AND THE DADDY FAMILY AT 2 SARAH ANN’S TERRACE, SPYVEE STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS)
HE ENLISTED AT HULL, ON 11/05/1918. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 3 INCHES TALL, 32 INCH CHEST, FORMERLY, PRIVATE, 22824 & 577594, WEST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. SERVED IN THE 7TH BATTALION A RESERVE REGIMENT. HE COMMITTED SUICIDE WHILE TEMPOARILY INSANE. DIED IN COUNTY DONEGAL, IRELAND, ON 15/08/1918, AGED 18.
HIS NAME IS LISTED ON THE ST MARKS STREET MEMORIAL. WITH HIS BROTHER ROBERT EARNSHAW, WHO WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 15/09/1916, AGED 36.
THIS WAS HIS ARMY ADDRESS. HE IS BURIED AT FINNER CEMETERY, COUNTY DONEGAL, IRELAND.
