BORN HULL 1894. ONLY SON OF CHARLES CUTHBERT & JANE ELIZABETH EAST, OF 18 ALEXANDRA CRESCENT, ALEXANDRA ROAD, HULL. PRIOR TO WAR, HE WORKED AS A CLERK, IN THE OFFICES OF BLUNDELL SPENCE AND COMPANY AND TOOK AN ACTIVE PART IN THE NEWLAND BROTHERHOOD CONGRGATIOONAL CHURCH.
HE ENLISTED ON 21/12/1915. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 7 INCHES TALL, 131 LBS WEIGHT, 33-35 INCH CHEST SIZE, FIT FOR GENERAL SERVICE. ENROLLED WITH THE YEOMAN RIFLES, WHICH BECAME THE 21ST KING’S ROYAL RIFLE CORPS, UNDER THE COMMAND OF THE LATE EARL OF FEVERSHAM. HE PROCEEDED TO THE FRONT IN SPRING 1915. ADMITTED TO HOSPITAL DURING AUGUST 1916 WITH IMPETAG AND SCABIES BROUGHT ON BY TRENCH CONDITIONS. WOUNDED. HE DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 17/06/1917, AGED 22.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 29/06/1917. *
HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS SISTER, MISS MABEL EAST. THEY INCLUDED HIS IDENTITY DISC, 2 PIPES, 2 RELIGIOUS BOOKS, PURSE, TOBACCO PUCH, DIARY, LETTERS, WALLET AND CAP BADGE.
