BORN BEVERLEY 26/12/1874. SON OF THOMAS ELLIOT (1843-1897) AND MARY RICHARDSON (1845-1914), OF 307 BOULEVARD, HULL. EMPLOYED IN THE TIMBER MERCHANT BUSINESS. HE MARRIED IN 1896. HIS WIFE GERTRUDE ELIZABETH BATLEY (1878-1920) AND CHILDREN ETHEL (1896-1978), THOMAS (1897-1962) AND JOHN (1900-1973). HE HAD SERVED IN THE ROYAL NAVY FROM 20/05/1890 AND WAS A DOCK LABOURER, LIVING AT 15 WINDSOR TERRACE, COLONIAL STREET, SPRING BANK, HULL (1911 CENSUS). HE ENLISTED IN HULL IN OCTOBER 1914. SERVED AS GNR, 207, HULL HEAVY BATTERY, IN EAST AFRICA, IN FEBRUARY, 1916. HE DIED OF MALARIAL FEVER AND DYSENTERY AT BRISTOL HOSPITAL, ON 13/09/1917, AGED 42. HE IS BURIED AT HULL’S, HEDON ROAD CEMETERY (Grave Ref: 37. 87.)
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 21/09/1917.
HIS SON, THOMAS EDWARD ELLIOTT, WORKED AS A MINER IN ROTHERHAM AND SERVED AS 47022, IN THE 6TH YORK AND LANCASTER REGIMENT DURING THE WAR.
HIS BROTHER, PRIVATE, JOHN WILLIAM ELLIOT, 59390, 14TH NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS, WAS MARRIED WITH EIGHT CHILDREN AND WAS KILLED ON 27/05/1918, AGED 38. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON TH SOISSONS MEMORIAL, PICARDIE, FRANCE.
