BORN HULL 1894. SON OF JOHN COOPER NEWLOVE (1862-1902) & PHOEBE ANN NEVIS (1865-1951), OF 117, CRAVEN STREET, HULL. HE HAD FOUR SISTERS AND TWO BROTHERS. EDUCATED AT CROWLE STREET BOARD SCHOOL, HULL.

EMPLOYED BY THE HULL & BARNSLEY RAILWAYS AS A HYDRAULIC MACHINE MAN ON ONE OF THEIR TUG BOATS.

JOINED THE HULL TERRITORIALS, ON 04/03/1912. CALLED UP FOR SERVICE IN AUGUST 1914. SERVED IN FRANCE & FLANDERS FROM 17/04/1915. PROMOTED TO COMPANY SERGEANT MAJOR. REPORTED MISSING DURING FIGHTING AT ARRAS. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 23/04/1917, AGED 23. COMMEMORATED ON THE ARRAS MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING, FRANCE.

HIS DEATH IS RECORDED IN THE DE RUVIGNEY ROLL OF HONOUR, VOLUME 4.

HIS BROTHER, HAROLD EMMITT (188-1939) SERVED AS PRIVATE, 13/89 EYR & BECAME A SECOND LIEUTENANT IN THE WAR. HE LIVED AT 77, GRAFTON STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION RECORDS)
