Espiner, Arthur Charles

BORN NORTH FERRIBY 1891, BUT RESIDENT IN HULL. SON OF WILLIAM ESPINER (1853-1899) ALICE ANN MILBURN (1858-1934), OF 10, CURZON STREET, ALBERT AVENUE, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). HE HAD TWO BROTHERS AND SIX SISTERS. WORKED AS A LOCOMOTIVE FIREMAN, FOR THE NORTH EASTERN RAILWAYS. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 4 INCHES TALL, 35. 37.5 INCH CHEST, 135 LBS WEIGHT,  BIRTHMARK IN SAMLL OF BACK, GOOD PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 17/11/1914. SERVED WITH THE 13TH EYR (HULL PALS) IN EGYPT AND FRANCE. ACCIDENTALLY KILLED IN FRANCE, ON 14/08/1916, AGED 25. HE HAD GONE (WITHOUT PERMISSION) INTO NO MANS LAND TO GET A BETTER FIELD OF FIRE AND WAS BOMBED BY HIS OWN MEN RETURNING TO THE TRENCH.

HE HAD SERVED FOR 1 YEAR AND 272 DAYS. UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, ALICE.
