Everingham, Walter Stanley

BORN HULL 1890. SON OF GEORGE DANIEL EVERINGHAM (1844-1918) AND & SARAH JANE FAULKNER 91853-1925), OF THE “BLACK HORSE” HOTEL, CARR LANE, HULL. SON OF A PUB LANDLORD. HE HAD TWO OLDER BROTHERS.

HE WAS EDUCATED AT HYMERS, HULL WHERE HE SERVED IN THE ARMY CADETS. HE JOINED THE 1/4 EYR TERRITORIALS IN 1908. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 6 INCHES TALL, 34-36.5 INCH CHEST. AWARDED THE TERRITORIAL EFFICIENCY MEDAL. HE WORKED AS A CORN MERCHANT FOR JO LAMBERT, IN FERRIBY, BROUGH, YORKSHIRE.

ENLISTED IN THE “HULL COMMERCIALS” WHEN WAR BEGAN. SERVED WITH THE 10TH EYR, IN EGYPT AND FRANCE. KILLED IN ACTION AT SERRE, ON 13/11/1916, AGED 26. HE IS BURIED AT THE SOMME. HE WAS UNMARRIED.

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER, GEORGE, WHO MOVED TO FERRIBY. HIS NAME IS LISTED ON HULL’S HYMER COLLEGE MEMORIAL. HIS FAMILY GRAVE AT NORTH FERRIBY READS, “In loving/ memory of/ Walter Stanley/ youngest son of/ George & Sarah Everingham/ who fell in France Nov 13th 1916.”

HIS BROTHER EDWIN SERVED IN THE ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY. HIS OTHER BROTHER, GEORGE SERVED IN THE COLDSTREAM GUARDS.
