BORN HULL 1877. SON OF JOHN GEORGE AND MARY EVINGTON, OF 51 MORPETH STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS). HE HAD FIVE BROTHERS AND ONE SISTER.
HE FIRST MARRIED MARY, ON 25/12/1908, AT ST PAUL’S CHURCH, SCULCOATES AND HAD SIX CHILDREN LIVING AT 2 KINGSTON PLACE, SYKES STREET, HULL.
HIS SECOND WIFE WIFE, ANN ELIZA EVINGTON AND THEIR YOUNG DAUGHTER ELMA, LIVED AT 116 , BELVOIR STREET, PRINCES AVENUE, HULL. BEFORE THE WAR HE WORKED AS SHOP ASSISTANT FOR A MARINE STORE DEALER.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 19/10/1915, USING THE FIRST NAME ALBERT AND PROVIDING THE YOUNGER AGE OF 35. HE JOINED THE 3RD EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. ARMY LIFE WAS CLEARLY NOT FOR HIM. HE WENT ABSENT ON 08/03/1915, 27/04/1915, 08/05/1915, 01/06/1915 AND 29/06/1915. HE WAS THEN TRANSFERRED TO THE 14TH EAST YORKSHIRE RESERVES. DESERTED ON 31/07/1915. APPREHENDED IN HULL ON 06/10/1915. DETAINED FOR 56 DAYS ON 19/10/1915. POSTED TO FRANCE ON 22/07/1916. TRANSFERRED TO ENGLAND AND THE KING’SOWN YORKSHIRE LIGHT INFANTRY, ON 30/12/1916. DISCHARGED WITH TUBERCULOSIS OF THE LUNG, ON 12/02/1917.
HE DIED WITH HIS WIFE, MARY AND FOUR DEPENDENT CHILDREN, AT 28 CHRISTOPHER STREET, HULL ON 16/12/1917, AGED 40.
MARY WAS AWARDED A WEEKLY WAR PENSION OF 28 SHILLINGS & NINE PENCE, ON 16TH MARCH 1918. (WAR PENSION ADDRESS).
