BORN HULL 10/04/1889. SON OF JAMES FELL & SELINA JANE NORTON (1861-1947), OF 20 DERRINGHAM STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS). EMPLOYED AS A CLERK, BY THE PRODUCE BROKERS COMPANY, HULL. HE ENLISTED IN THE 10TH HULL COMMERCIALS, ON 05/09/1914. ARRIVED IN FRANCE IN APRIL 1916. BEING TRANSFERRED TO THE 8TH EYR AND THEN THE MACHINE GUN CORPS. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 06/05/1918, AGED 28. BURIED AT COYIN NEW BRITISH CEMETERY.
HIS COMMANDING OFFICER, WROTE, “DURING THE 13 MONTHS HE SERVED WITH ME, I FOUND HIM A LOYAL AND HARD WORKING NCO, WILLING AT ALL TIMES TO DO IN HIS POWER FOR THE WELFARE OF THE BATTALION, WHOSE INTERESTS HE HAD AT HEART. YOU HAVE THE SATISFACTION OF KNOWING THAT YOUR HUSBAND DID HIS DUTY IN A MANNER THAT SECURED THE APPROBATION OF ALL THE OFFICERS OF THE BATTALION, HIS FAITHFULNESS AND LOYALTY BEING MOST MARKED. HE WAS A MOST DEVOTED AND LOYAL WORKER AND I HAVE NEVER COME ACROSS ANYONE OUT HERE AS RELIABLE AS HE WAS. ”
HE MARRIED AT CHRIST CHURCH, HULL ON 11TH SEPTEMBER 1915. HIS WIFE LILLIAN WARDEN MOORE, LIVED AT THIS ADDRESS AND 5 ARMITAGE TERRACE, WESTGATE, HORNSEA. THEY HAD A DAUGHTER, JOAN LILLIAN FELL. HE ALSO LEFT BROTHERS, MELVYN, AND FRANK, AND SISTERS, JANE AND ELIZA FELL.
