Ferns, Thomas

Born on 27 Sep 1894 • Manchester. Son of John Ferns (1864-1929) and Margaret Sanderson (1867-1902), of Newton Heath, Manchester and 8, Holborn Mount, Holborn Street, Hull (War Pension address).

He worked as a farm labourer in Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, (1911 Census). He had three sisters and three brothers.

Enlisted in Manchester. Posted to France, on 11/11/1915. Formerly “A” Coy. 22nd Bn. Manchester Regiment. Served as a sergeant, in the 17th Lancashire Fusiliers. Died of wounds, on 31/10/1918, aged 24. Buried Belgium.

His elder brothers, John and Mark Ferns also served in the Machester Regiment.
