HE EMIGRATED TO AUSTRALIA, AFTER THE DEATH OF HIS MOTHER, TO LIVE WITH HIS SISTER, MARY. HIS FATHER IN HULL BEING NEARLY EIGHTY YEARS OLD. HE WAS EMPLOYED AS AN ENGINEER, WORKING FOR MESSRS HENRY PALE AND SON, IN AUBURN. HE ENLISTED IN LIVERPOOL, SYDNEY, NEW SOUTH WALES, ON 04/08/1915. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT 7 INCHES TALL, 145 LBS WEIGHT, 36 INCH CHEST, BLUE EYES, BROWN HAIR. POSTED TO ALEXANDRIA. ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 21/03/1916. HE WAS GASSED AT POZIERES IN JULY 1916. RETURNED TO DUTIES. REPORTED MISSING THEN KILLED IN ACTION, ON 25/07/1916, AGED 20. WITNESSED BY COMRADES, AS HIT IN THE CHEST BY AN EXPLODING SHELL WHILE SHELTERING IN A SHELL HOLE. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS SISTER MARY FISHER, 5 HENRIETTA STREET, WAVERLEY, SYDNEY, NEW SOUTH WALES, AUSTRALIA.

HIS BROTHER, SERGEANT, ERNEST FISHER, WAS WOUNDED AT THE DARDENELLES AND RETURNED TO ENGLAND. HIS BROTHER, ALFRED FISHER, WAS LOST ON HMS “VIKNOR, ON 13/01/1915, AGED 26.
