BORN HULL 1898. SON OF WILLIAM HENRY & THE LATE JANE ELIZABETH HORSEMAN, AT 1 YORK TERRACE, RUSTENBERG STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS) AND 232 , HOLDERNESS ROAD, HULL (ARMY RECORDS ADDRESS). HIS MOTHER WAS A NEWSAGENT ON HOLDERNESS ROAD. HE MANAGED THE SHOP AFTER HER DEATH.

HE RESIDED IN HULL, BUT ENLISTED IN HORNSEA, ON 27/06/1916, AGED 18 AND 8 MONTHS. HE ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 02/12/1916. SERVED IN THE 18TH DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY. KILLED IN ACTION, AT ARRAS, ON 18/05/1917, AGED 19. HE HAD SERVED FOR 329 DAYS.

UNMARRIED. HIS MOTHER HAD DIED ON 21/09/1916 AGED 51. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE THEREFORE LEFT TO HIS ADOPTED SISTER, GLADYS MAY FLETCHER, AT 86, ROSMEAD STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). AMONG HIS POSSESSIONS WERE CORRESPONDENCE, A GOSPEL AND TESTAMENT. THEY FAMILY REQUESTED A WATCH AND GOLD SIGNET RING IN ORDER TO SETTLE SOME DEBTS AFTER HIS MOTHER HAD DIED. THESE IT SEEMS WERE LOST ON THE BATTLEFIELD.

HIS BROTHER, GEORGE HORSEMOND FLETCHER SERVED IN THE RAMC AND WAS TAKEN PRISONER AFTER HIS DEATH. ANOTHER BROTHER JOHN STUART FLETCHER HAD DISAPPEARED FROM THE FAMILY.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH, IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 1ST JUNE 1917. *
HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE ARRAS MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING
