BORN HULL 21/05/1891. ELDEST SON OF JOHN WILLIAM FOTHERBY (1860-1945) & ELIZABETH WOODS (1863-1939), OF 2, HENRY TERRACE, CAMPBELL STREET, HULL. HE HAD THREE BROTHERS AND THREE SISTERS. HE LIVED AT 3 NEW STREET, HAWTHORNE AVENUE, & 63 GOODWIN STREET, HULL, WITH BROTHER, ERNEST FOTHERBY, 2ND EYR.
GEORGE EMIGRATED TO CANADA, LIVING AT 32, JESMOND AVENUE, OAKWOOD. HE WORKED AS A CARPENTER. HE WAS DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 6.5 INCHES TALL, 36-39 INCH CHEST, BROWN EYES, BLACK HAIR, TATTOOS ON BOTH ARMS.
HE ENLISTED IN CANADA on 22/09/1914. HE RETURNED TO HULL, BEFORE PROCEEDING TO FRANCE. HE SERVED WITH THE 3RD FIELD COMPANY, ROYAL CANADIAN ENGINNERS. HE WAS KILLED IN THE VIVINITY OF ST JEAN, FRANCE, ON 23/04/1915, AGED 23. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE YPRES, MENIN GATE MEMORIAL, BELGIUM.
HIS DEATH AND PHOTOGRAPH WERE PRINTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 14TH MAY 1915. *
