Born Beverley, 17 Jan 1880. Son of Mercy Maria Spivey (1853-1920), of 40, Eastgate, Beverley, Yorkshire (war pension address).
He enlisted in the Rifle Brigade on 5 Feb 1899. Described as 5 foot, 8 inches tall, 115 lbs weight, 34 inch chest, blue eyes, brown hair, Church of England religion. scar on right fore arm, tattoo on left forearm. Served in both Boer Wars. Discharged on 8 Feb 1911. He then worked as a coal merchant labourer.
re-enlisted at start of the war. Died of wounds, on 20 Feb1919, aged 39.
