BORN HULL 1894. SON OF THE LATE JOHN FREEMAN, M.R.C.V.S AND EMMIE JANE FREEMAN. HE AND HIS OLDER SISTER, KATHLEEN, WERE ORPHANS BY 1901 AND LIVING WITH KARL AND JOANNE SCHMIDT AT 17 VERMONT STREET, HULL (1901 CENSUS).
HE WORKED AS A CLERK FOR A PAINT MANUFACTURER AND LIVED AT 34, RYDE STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS).
HE JOINED THE EAST RIDING YEOMANRY IN SEPTEMBER 1914. POSTED TO MESOPOTANIA, on 21/11/1915, WITH THE EGYPTIAN EXPEDITIONARY FORCE. HE SERVED AS PRIVATE, 50302, OF THE LANCERS AND THEN CORPORAL, 50588, IN THE 10TH IMPERIAL CAMEL CORPS. HE WAS AWARDED THE DISTINGUISHED CONDUCT MEDAL (DCM) FOR BRAVERY. HE DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 14/08/1918, AGED 24.
HE LEFT £1,286 IN HIS WILL TO KATHLEEN FREEMAN, A SPINSTER AT THIS PROBATE ADDRESS. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 15/08/1918. HE IS BURIED AT SUEZ WAR MEMORIAL CEMETERY, EGYPT. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION READS, “BLESSED ARE THEY WHOSE MEMORIES WE CHERISH”‘
