HE MARRIED IN DRYPOOL, HULL, ON 05/08/1916. HUSBAND OF ELEANOR ELIZABETH (MELBOURNE) OF 1 GORDON TERRACE, BUCKINGHAM STREET AND 4 HAWTHORNE VILLAS, BALFOUR STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). A BAKER. HE HAD SERVED FOR 5 YEARS IN THE 1/4TH EYR TERRITORIAL. HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 09/12/1915, AGED 24 YEARS AND 1 MONTH. SERVED IN THE ROYAL ARMY SERVICE CORPS ( FIELD BAKERY). ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 17/04/1917. DIED OF MULTIPLE GUNSHOT WOUNDS, AT THE 1ST CANADIAN CASUALTY STATION, FRANCE, ON 12/05/1917, AGED 25. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, ELEANOR.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 09/06/1917; & 13/05/1918.
HE IS BURIED IN FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “UNTIL THE DAY BREAKS & THE SHADOWS FADE AWAY”.
