EDUCATED AT TRINITY HOUSE NAVAL SCHOOL, HULL. HE WAS A LABOURER. DESCRIBED IN ARMY RECORDS AS 5 FOOT 7 INCHES TALL, 36 INCH CHEST, WEIGHT: 9 STONE, 9LBS, BLUE EYES, FAIR HAIR, TATTOOS ON BOTH FOREARMS. CHURCH OF ENGLAND RELIGION.

ENLISTED MORPHETVILLE, NEW SOUTH WALES ON 16/09/1914. JOINED 16TH AIF, 4TH BRIGADE, ‘D’ COMPANY. WOUNDED IN ARM AND ELBOW, AT GALLIPOLI ON 17/08/1915. HE WROTE TO HIS MOTHER THAT HE WOULD NOT LET THE TURKS TAKE HIM PRISONER. WOUNDED IN LEG, THIGH AND FOOT ON 28/11/1916. DIED OF WOUNDS ON 01/12/1916, AGED 26, AT 45TH CLEARING STATION. HIS PIPE, PURSE AND WALLETT WERE RETURNED TO HIS MOTHER. MS A CROW ‘TONTO’ NSW, REQUESTED A PHOTOGRAPH OF HIS GRAVE IN MARCH 1920.
