BORN HULL 1893. SON OF THE LATE JOSEPH & STEPSON OF RACHEL GALE AT 22, SWANN STREET, HULL & 10, BRAMLEY SQUARE, ALDBRO STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESSES). HE HAD TWO BROTHERS AND A SISTER. EMPLOYED AS A LABOURER. RESIDING AT 18, STATION LANE, BARNSLEY, WHEN WAR WAS DECLARED.

HE ENLISTED AT WOMBELL, BARNSLEY ON 13/09/1915, AGED  23. HE SERVED WITH THE 7TH YORK AND LANCASTER REGIMENT. HE WAS DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 3 INCHES TALL, 35-37 INCH CHEST, 114 LBS WEIGHT. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 02/03/1916. HE WAS REPORTED MISSING, WOUNDED AND KILLED, ON 07/07/1916. HE IS BURIED ON THE SOMME.
