HE MARRIED ELIZABETH GIBBON, IN HULL, ON 10/04/1911. THEY HAD THREE SONS AND LIVED AT, 4, BEECH GROVE, GARDEN VILLAGE, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). EMPLOYED AS A FLOUR MILLER’S CLERK.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 11/12/1915, AGED 30 YEARS AND 7 MONTHS. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 9 INCHES TALL, 138 LBS WEIGHT, 36 INCH CHEST, DEFECTIVE VISION, BUT FIT FOR GARRISON DUTIES ABROAD. EX, PRIVATE, 202814, 2/4TH YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 21/06/1917. TRANSFERRED AS PRIVATE, 235165, 2/4TH THE LOYAL NORTH LANCASHIRE REGIMENT. HE DIED ON 21/04/1918, AGED 33.
HE IS BURIED AT ST. SEVER CEMETERY EXTENSION, ROUEN. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, ELIZABETH. THEY INCLUDED, “1 CAP BADGE, NOTEBOOK, LETTERS, PHOTOGRAPHS, PIPE, 1 POCKET WALLET, RELIGIOUS BOOK, A PAIR OF GILT FRAMED SPECTACLES. A SPECTACLE CASE,A 19 CARRAT GOLD RING, 1 METALWATCH, A WHISTLE, AND 1 (JOHN BULL) FOUNTAIN PEN”. ONE THEIR SONS HAD DIED. SHE WAS AWARDED A WEEKLY WAR PENSION OF 25 SHILLINGS AND FIVE PENCE FROM 04/11/1918, FOR HERSELF AND TWO OTHER CHILDREN.
