BORN HULL 1890. SON OF WILLIAM DENTON & ANNIE GARDAM (BULMAN), OF 73 ARGYLE STREET, HULL. AKA ROBERT ARTHUR DENTON GARDAM.
HE ATTENDED HULL’S TRINITY NAVAL & IS LISTED ON THE TRINITY HOUSE MEMORIAL. HE WORKED FOR THE ELLERMAN-WILSON LINE AND HAD SAILED TO MOST PARTS IN THE WORLD. ENLISTING AT THE START OF THE WAR, HE HAD ALREADY SURVIVED TWO SHIPS WHICH WERE TOPEDOED.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, WITH HIS PHOTO ON 11TH FEBRUARY 1918.
SS Cavallo, built by Dunlop, Bremner & Co. Ltd., Port Glasgow in 1913 and owned at the time of her loss by T. Wilson, Sons & Co. Ltd., Hull, was a British steamer of 2086 tons.
On February 1st, 1918, Cavallo, on a voyage from Liverpool & Swansea to Odda with a cargo of coal & tinplate, was sunk by the German submarine U-46 (Leo Hillebrand), 6 miles northwest of Trevose Head. 3 persons were lost.
