BORN BRADFORD YORKSHIRE, 1882.. SON OF SAMUEL GEDNEY & EDITH AMBLER (1855-1926), OF 58 , NORWOOD STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). SON OF AN ENGINE DRIVER. ONE OF EIGHT CHILDREN.

EMPLOYED AS AN ENGINEER. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT 7 INCHES TALL, 133 LBS WEIGHT, 34-37 INCH CHEST, BLUE EYES, DARK BROWN HAIR, CHURCH OF ENGLAND RELIGION, “VERY GOOD” CHARACTER.

HE ENLISTED AT DONCASTER, JOINING THE ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY, ON 20 TH JANUARY 1901, AGED 19.

MARRIED AT WILMINGTON, HULL, ON 15TH FEBRUARY 1908, AGED 26. HUSBAND OF SARAH ELIZABETH SMITH (1889-1966), OF 11, OAKEY TERRACE, WEST PARADE, SPRING BANK, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS), THEY HAD THREE SONS.

PROMOTED THROUGH THE RANKS. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 5TH NOVEMBER 1914. SERVED WITH 3RD BATTERY, 45TH BRIGADE, IN FRANCE. AWARDED THE MILITARY MEDAL FOR BRAVERY IN THE FIELD (LONDON GAZETTE, 16TH AUGUST 1917). PROMOTED SERGEANT, ON 1ST SEPTEMBER 1918. TRANSFERRED TO THE LABOUR CORPS.

DISCHARGED AFTER 18 YEARS SERVICE. DIED IN HULL, SEPTTEMBER 1926, AGED 44.

HIS TWO BROTHERS, CHARLES NORMAN GEDNEY AND GEORGE HIGHSLIP GEDNEY ALSO DIED OF WAR RELATED INJURIES.
