Born LLandongh, Wales, on o1/11/1883. A former Blacksmith, He had served in the Royal Navy for six years before emigrating to Canada. described as 5 foot, 3 inches tall, 37-40 inch chest, grey eyes, black hair, dark complexion, appendix scar. He enlisted on 12/10/1915. Posted to France, on 14/08/1916. Admitted to hospital with heart trouble and Trench Fever, in 1917.
Married at Patrington, in 1917. Husband of Francis Emily Armitage (1880-1963), of the Hare and Hounds Pub, Burstwick. Served as Sergeant, with “D” Company, 54th Canadian Expeditionary Force. Died of influenza on 09/02/1919, aged 37. Buried at All Saints Churchyard, Burstwick. Left a widow and daughter, Emily Irene (1918-1931).
