BORN KILLARNEY, COUNTY KERRY, IRELAND, 1882. SON OF MR R.J. GODFREY AND MRS E GODFREY, OF MONKSTOWN, COUNTY DUBLIN.

HE MARRIED AT HULL IN 1902. HIS WIFE ANN (SLATER) & SIX CHILDREN (4 BOYS & 2 DAUGHTERS), LIVED AT 4 SIDNEY TERRACE. SIDNEY STREET, DRYPOOL, HULL. EMPLOYED AS AN OIL MILLER. HE WAS ALSO A FORMER TERRITORIAL SOLDIER.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 09/11/1914. SERVED IN THE 8TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 03/05/1917, AGED 35. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, ANN. HER WEEKLY WAR PENSION WAS 33/9.
HE IS BURIED AT TILLOY BRITISH CEMETERY, TILLOY-LES-MOFFLAINES. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “IN SILENCE WE STILL REMEMBER – FROM HIS LOVING WIFE AND CHILDREN”.
