Born Tonbridge Kent, 1890. Son of John Alfred Goldsmith (1865-1895) and Alice Mary Hines (1867-1938), of 20, Sykes Street, Hull (War Pension address). Brother of Gunner, Jesse John Goldsmith, 33942, Royal Garrison Artillery, of 2, Council Houses, St. Dennis, St. Austell, Cornwall (CWGC address).
Enlisted Reading, Berkshire. Served as Lance Sergeant, 4th Middlesex Regiment. Killed in action, on 01/07/1916, aged 21. Buried at Gordon Dump Cemetery, Ovillers, France. His grave inscription reads, “UNTIL THE DAWN BREAKS AND THE SHADOWS FLEE AWAY”.
His brother Lance Corporal, Frederick William Goldsmith, 55594, 9th Coy, Machine Gun Corps, was killed in action, on 01/10/1918, aged 31 and is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium.
