BORN HULL 1895. SON OF EDWARD ALFRED GOODIER (1856-1911) & ALICE GOODIER, OF 4 , PRINCES ROAD, HULL (1901 CENSUS), 71 ALEXANDRA ROAD, HULL (1911 CENSUS) AND 13, BRENTWWOD VILLAS, MARSHALL STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). SON OF A LIFE INSURANCE AGENT. ONE OF EIGHT CHILDREN AND FIVE SONS. BROTHERS, WALTER, ARTHUR, TOM HAROLD, WILLIAM RICHMOND, ERNEST ALFRED, AND SYDNEY GOODIER. A FORMER SHOP ASSISTANT.

HE JOINED THE REGULAR ARMY AT BEVERLEY, ON 27/07/1912. HE WAS STATIONED IN YORK WHEN WAR BEGAN. MOVED TO EDINBURGH AND CAMBRIDGE. ARRIVED AT ST NAZAIRE, FRANCE, ON 10/09/1914. SERVED WITH THE BRITISH EXPEDITIONARY FORCE, ON THE AISNE HEIGHTS, AS CORPORAL, IN THE 1ST EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 29/09/1914, AGED 19. UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, ALICE, WHO DIED ON 8TH APRIL 1923.
HE IS BURIED AT VENDRESSE CHURCHYARD. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “THEIR GLORY SHALL NOT BE BLOTTED OUT”.

HIS BROTHERS, WALTER, ARTHUR, TOM HAROLD, WILLIAM RICHMOND, ERNEST ALFRED, AND SYDNEY GOODIER SERVED IN THE WAR AND SURVIVED.
