BORN HULL 1897. SON OF FREDERICK & SARAH ANN GOODING, 23 SIDMOUTH STREET, HULL. HIS FATHER WORKED FOR HULL CORPORATION.

HE WAS A FORMER MESSENGER BOY.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED WITH THE 7TH KINGS ROYAL RIFLE CORPS. DIED OF WOUNDS AT THE BATTLE OF HOOGE, ON 30/07/1915, AGED 18.

HIS BODY WAS FOUND WITH THREE OTHER MEN. A LETTER IN HIS POCKET FROM HIS FATHER ALLOWED HIM TO BE IDENTIFIED.

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WENT TO HIS FATHER, FREDERICK.

ARTHUR’S DEATH AND ADDRESS WERE REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 24TH AUGUST 1915, AND THE HULL TIMES, ON 28TH AUGUST 1915, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH.
HIS IS COMMEMORTATED AT: Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Ypres (Ieper), Arrondissement Ieper, West Flanders (West-Vlaanderen), Belgium
HIS YOUNGER BROTHER, FRED, WAS LOST AT SEA, ON THE STEAMSHIP ‘HYNDFORD’, ON 15/03/1915, AGED 19. BOTH BROTHERS ARE RECORDED ON THE WW1 MEMORIAL AT ST JOHNS, NEWLAND, CLOUGH ROAD, HULL.
