Born Arram, Yorkshire, 1895. Son of Edith Sarah Blakestone (1871-1951) and Hugh Seymour Grant (1843-1920), of Arram and Ticton, Beverley (War pension addresses). His father was born in Brandesburton and considerably older than his mother, who was born in Cherry Burton. His parents married at Beverley in 1894. Their children were all born in Arram, East Yorkshire,

Son of a farmer. John Seymour Grant, worked at home on the farm. He had three brothers and two sisters.

He enlisted at Beverley. Served in the 1/4th Northumberland Fusiliers. Killed at Passchendaele, on 26/10/1917, aged 22. Buried in Belgium. His army effects were left to his mother, Sarah.

His name is recorded on the Arram & Leconfield WW1 memorial at St Catherine’s Churchyard. (35 served and 4 died)
