Born Hilderthorpe, Bridlington, Yorkshire, 1867. Son of George and Annie Eliza Gray of 26 Bonemill Road, Bridlington. Son of a fisherman.
Husband of the late Jane Gray, of 28, St Hilda Street, Bridlington (War Pension address). Served in the South African Campaign with East Yorkshire Regiment.
Enlisted at Hull. Formerly 3497, East Yorks Regiment. Served with the Royal Defence Corps, 55th Protection Coy.
Died at home, of a rupture, on 01/02/1917, aged 50. his army effects were left to his widow, Jane (born 27 Feb 1867). They had children, Maude and Thomas Gray and one dependent daughter, Ellen Watkinson, born on 7 Feb 1909.
Buried at Bridlington Cemetery. His grave inscription reads, SERVED THROUGH THE BOER WAR WITH THE EAST YORKS. THY WILL BE DONE
