BORN HULL 1882. SON OF JAMES EDWARD GRAYBURN (1857-1907) & MARY ANNIE SCOTT (1863-1946), OF 10, ARTHUR TERRACE, WATERLOO STREET, HULL. HE HAD FIVE BROTHERS AND FOUR SISTERS. THE FAMILY LIVED AT 7, TALBOT TERRACE, TOOGOOD STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). THE FAMILY ALSO LIVED AT 107, SELBY STREET AND 10, ARTHUR TERRACE, WATERLOO STREET, HULL.
EMPLOYED AS AN OIL MILL PRESSMAN. HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED WITH THE 5TH BORDER REGIMENT. WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 16/09/1916, AGED 34. HE IS BURIED AT ADANAC MILITARY CEMETERY, MIRAUMONT, SOMME, FRANCE. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LOST TO HIS MOTHER ANNIE.
HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE WW1 MEMORIAL, AT ST CHARLES BORROMEO, CHURCH, JARRATT STREET, HULL.
HE WAS ONE OF THREE BROTHERS KILLED IN THE WAR. THE THREE SONS LOST WERE:-
PRIVATE, GEORGE GRAYBURN, 4390, 5TH BORDER REGIMENT WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 16/09/1916, AGED 34.
PRIVATE, JOHN GRAYBURN, 13/775, 13TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, KILLED IN ACTION, ON 20/07/1917, AGED 27.
HIS BROTHER, PRIVATE, WILLIAM GRAYBURN, 11561, 10TH EAST YORKKSHIRE REGIMENT, DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 26/09/1918, AGED 22.
